This project was done for my senior capstone. For our capstone we had to address a human need via communication design in a unique way. I decided to tackle a problem that I found with family lesson plans in elementary school.
Currently, the common elementary class lesson plans and activities about family pertain to traditional families. Because of this, students who come from non-traditional family backgrounds (adoptive, foster, and mixed families, and families with single, same sex, or divorced parents) may feel excluded from the lesson.
Family Talk would be a tool for teachers to help them create more inclusive lessons plans. It would be a website that features educational videos, classroom activities, and informational links that aim to educate, spark discussion, and raise awareness and understanding of diverse family backgrounds.

I chose to create one of the educational videos that would be featured in the lesson plan on adopted families.
